1999 - The 12-month restoration ends... maybe...

1999, and it's about time this car moved again. Fresh enthusiasm, borne out of buying the Elise, started the ball rolling again.

A new dashboard to replace the one damaged when someone tried to steal the radio, a couple of nights sorting out poor earth returns and a few other wiring problems, a new battery and Lotty II is winking at me again.

The dashboard isn't as original, it's one of those walnut finish replicas that came on to the market. While I wouldn't fit one to the Elan, it does look well in the Europa.

The final photo shows the car now back on it's wheels and looking like it might terrify a few sheep again up on the moors. On the right you can see my latest road bike and it’s getting harder to balance the cycling with the cars (and the computers, photography, etc, etc.

I just don't know how I manage to go to work, there's so much important stuff to do.

Well, it's a brave (or naive) man who says the restoration is complete. In fact there are still a few jobs to tidy up, the handbrake is lousy and as you can see the front spoiler could do with a coat of satin black.

Hmm, now where's that spraygun......
