Chapter 1 : A One Owner Twin Cam comes to Stay

Let's spin the clock forward to 1987. Helen decided to start driving and passed her test. At the time we had that Marcos, the Elan, and a TR7 as the sensible car - honest !

The TR was too heavy for someone just starting to drive and so it had to go. We entered the world of new cars with a Black Mini and no MoTs for 3 years !

Well now you've got a Mini, dearest, you know I've always fancied a Europa ?

Oh no, I promise not to buy one that needs loads of work like the others.

No love, I'm finished with restoring old wrecks, nah, not me, we'll buy a good 'un.

Wotcha think ? Hey look, here's one just down the road... well, it's only an hour or so away, come on, it's a nice day for a drive ?

It took about 3 months and quite a few miles. We saw several cars, even one in the "preferred yellow", but something just didn't click. Until we saw HTU35K.

The first time I saw it, from 20 yards away I knew we were going to buy it. It turned out to be a one owner car who had sadly died a couple of years previously and the car had sat in the garage ever since.

It didn't really matter what the car drove like, I bought it within an hour of seeing it, and drove it home the following week. I even broke the principle of a lifetime and didn't bother haggling.

I expected some work with it standing for a couple of years, and yep, all the brakes needed sorting, but everything else was ok.

MoT taken, passed, and we were off again....
