The second silver paint job didn't lie too well with the car, for some reason I just didn’t get on with it . I’d really liked it in silver as a FHC, but wasn’t too sure about the colour as a DHC.

"Ah, Lotty was nice in red"

Oh, do you think so love ? why don't you pop over to the shops for the afternoon ?

"I can smell thinners....."

ouch

By this time I'd heard about spray fillers and knew that a two day spray job showed the gel-coat cracks 6 months later, so we went in for a 2 week marathon.

Much better, and this time we'll put a decent coat of paint on and polish it a bit. Oh, that's shiny, isn't it ?

Now Lotty looked the part, the only problem was she'd picked up the nasty habit of smoking. Every morning and every time we got stuck in traffic.

Shiny car, knackered engine.

But the compressions were ok, so it was only the valve guides that were the problem. So let's have new guides and seats.

We might as well have some of those Sprint cams while we're at it, and can I borrow your lathe for a few minutes to bore out these Weber chokes ?

Ah, now Lotty makes all the brumm brumm noises without the optional James Bond smokescreen, and she goes a bit quicker as well. Should have done this years ago.

Which brings us up to date, summer 1999, almost 10yrs after the last photo here. I don't pretend to use Lotty daily now, she's safely tucked away under blankets in the garage. I'm keeping her for my retirement, which doesn't look that far away at the moment.

Then we're off again into the next millennium.
